Page 1 of 4 If you have visited us before there is more to see this year with a new area incorporating a semi-sunken seating area and our eldest boy's new garden and a new pumpkin patch. Also the garden has matured incredibly since last year thanks to all the hard and heavy digging-in of horse manure. It has worked a treat. We have also extended the vegetable area and now have an active beehive in the garden. In 1995 we bought Chardleigh Cottage. The garden was very different back then with a large air raid shelter, a falling down greenhouse and it was a fight to see the stream. But, on a plus side there were two beautiful herbaceous borders and a large vegetable plot, not to mention five apple trees all on a steep slope.
Not much changed in the garden in the first few years until we decided to level part of the garden. This was the beginning of the vertical timber walls. The organic shapes of these walls evolved as we progressed with the project over the years until the final wall was built in 2008 at the top of the drive. The stone walls around the house were built from stone found in the garden when we demolished a large rockery and we were also fortunate to find a seam of the stone as we terraced the garden.
